Although this is now an "old" film. It was very enjoyable to see it againE. Knowles
This is a filmI had been wanting to see for a long time well worth waiting for

Logan 5(Michael York) lives a seemingly idyllic life within a domed city. He has a good job as a Sandman, now and again having to hunt down and kill 'runners'. Runners are those of 30 years and over whose life cycle has come to an end. Another way out is to report to Carousel, where individuals are renewed, by being reborn in fire. The Logan's world is turned upside down when he meets the free spirited Jessica 6(Jenny Agguter), whilst the discovery of possessions on a runners corpse leads to a mission that he has no choice but to undertake, as his life clock has been accelerated. Logan is now a runner, and he sets off with Jessica in search of 'Sanctuary' purued by his one time friend Francis(Richard Jordan).
This is a film full of fascinating ideas and concepts. It's in the execution of these ideas that it comes unstuck. It is a film that relies heavily on symbolism, but sometimes becomes mired in its own moralising when it should have been concentrating on moving the plot along. I'm a big fan of 70's conceptual sci-fi cinema, but this simply doesn't do it for me.
There are compensations however. The film is a visual delight, theres a great experimental electronic score by Jerry Goldsmith and York and Agguter make a very engaging partnership. The dystopian society in which they live, live for the now with no regard to the future as its all taken care of with ritualscarried out blindly by the populace is an agreeably sinister concept, but in director Anderson's hands it all gets just a little bit dull.
So a guarded thumbs up from me. Its all a bit of a missed oppurtunity in my opinion however. 3 out of 5

I remembered this from years ago and when I saw it on Amazon, I had to get it. I enjoyed it very much again some 40years later but was surprised by the 'now' shocking music and dodgy sound effects, however....
Logan's Run is an excellent concept and an example of great sci-fi and one of the reasons I enjoyed it (sci-fi) so much growing up. The story itself centres around Logan who is a Sandman and responsible for ensuring that once members of the population reach 25yrs of age, they either go to Carousel (where they are supposed to be reborn but are actually are incinerated) or are located after running and terminated!
Coloured discs on peoples palms indicate how old they are, so theres no hiding place! Logan is sent on a mission to discover where the runners who escape are going and so the authorities turn his disc red and he runs.
Accompanying him is a very vivacious Jenny Agutter and together they run and try to escape with the other Sandmen tracking them down. If you are unfamilar with Logans Run and like this genre, I would whole heartedly recommend it!

An excellent sci fi film, in line with many of the sci fi books of the time. Predicting mass over population. Solent green was in a similar vien, although with a more depressing background.
